Roll20 Esports War Banner

A freestanding war banner for a Roll20 Esports Heroes of the Storm team at BlizzCon 2017, built from the team's digital banner asset: illuminated d20 crown, printed and vacuum-formed shell, welded stand.

The challenge

Turn a digital team banner into something that stands on a show floor.

The banner existed only as an in-game style graphic. It had to become a tall, freestanding physical piece that lights up, reads from across a venue, and survives travel to an event.

The approach

Hoku converted and remodeled the digital asset for fabrication, then combined 3D printing, vacuum forming, laser cutting, welded metal work, sewing, and electronics, with the build streamed live on Twitch.

Build details

  • Processes: 3D printing, vacuum forming, laser cutting, metal work and welding, sewing, electronics
  • Lighting: Illuminated d20 in the banner crown
